On a day that was pouring down rain. I got a call about a baby groundhog that was on a sidewalk outside a dorm at Kent State.
It was under seven (7) days old and it’s toes were still fused together.
At first I thought he had been washed out of it’s den from all the rain. After inspecting the little guy, I found three small puncture holes. Two on the shoulder and one on its back hip, which indicates a predator, most likely a cat.
Sadly, we lost him on Sunday. He was not eating as good on Saturday and yesterday he stopped eating altogether. He likely had an internal infection from the puncture wounds, as cat bites are highly infectious. Nature can be cruel and somethings are out of my control. RIP little guy! 💔- Fran Kitchen
