Our phone was ringing all day yesterday and started back up at 5:30am this morning due to yesterday’s storm coming through and knocking out baby birds and squirrels from their nests. If the babies aren’t injured here are a few steps to take that will help get the babies back with their mother…

FOR BIRDS: If you can reach the nest, put them back in the tree. If you cannot find or reach the nest, place the babies in a plastic bowl ** BE SURE TO CUT HOLES IN THE BOTTOM or the birds will drown if it rains. **

FOR SQUIRRELS: Place babies at the base of the tree in a box with a bottle (just about any pop or water bottle will do) filled with hot tap water wrapped in a towel (no fringe) next to them to keep them warm.

KEEP IN MIND: Mom is most likely nearby. However, she will not return to the area until she knows you are gone and things have settled. Leave the area for 2 or 3 hours. If, after the time has passed, the mother has not recovered her babies, contact a wildlife rehabilitator Ohio Wildlife Rehabilitators Association.
