It has been a hard couple of months but my husband has improved enough that Operation Orphan Wildlife Rehabilitation can open the doors.
Thank you all for your well wishes and prayers.

This is NOT a permanent closure. My husband needs to be my priority right now. When I can open back up I will post the announcement. Thank you for your understanding.
Thank God that I have my husband Ron to help me answer the phones (we can literally get over a 150-200 calls per day during baby season or bad weather) while I am doing all the things that need done to care for, feed, clean and house the animals. Not to mention running back and…
It was under seven (7) days old and it’s toes were still fused together. At first I thought he had been washed out of it’s den from all the rain. After inspecting the little guy, I found three small puncture holes. Two on the shoulder and one on its back hip, which indicates a predator,…
Dear Friends, Due to all the storms this past week it has been crazy with all of the squirrel babies that have come in. They range from less than 1 week old to right at 5 weeks old. To say I am swimming in them is an understatement! Because I have so many that are…
This is a Squirrel’s Nest up close. There is a soft, cushioned area in the middle for the babies but the outer part is made of artfully placed sticks that are intertwined. Pretty impressive architecture. Photo taken by Dana Giron
Hello Friends! Just wanted everyone to know I am feeling much better (thank you for all the well wishes) and have re-opened. As always, If you have an orphan or uninjured animal please call me directly at 330-745-2947 as I DO NOT MONITOR FB messages on a regular basis and I don’t want an animal…
Flight school season! If you find a baby bird on the ground and it has feathers, LEAVE IT ALONE!
Today Laura Jordan of Medina Raptor Center and Fran Kitchen of Operation Orphan Wildlife Rehabilitation, Inc. presented Dr. Riggs and Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital with this beautiful carving of a Heron for all the work that they do for wildlife.
Baby season has arrived!
The first babies of the season arrived March 1st! Find out how you can help.
BABY BEAVER UPDATE:
Engineering at it’s best!
Those of you that follow our page may recall that back in July, we posted a video of a 4 week old beaver. It was stolen from its mom in the middle of the night by people that were fishing and thought they would ‘save it’. The truth is, it should have been left alone as mom was not far away. This happens far too often when humans try to intervene when they shouldn’t.
BABY BEAVER UPDATE:
Back in July, we posted a video of a baby beaver, appx 4 weeks old, that was found but should have been left alone as mom was not far away. Well, that baby beaver is growing like a weed!
With the news about the novel coronavirus changing rapidly, you might be wondering how this may impact Operations Orphan Wildlife Rehabilitation and the animals. I wanted to take a moment to share what we are doing and how you can help. WHAT WE ARE DOING: First of all, as of today, OOWR remains open for…
One warm fall afternoon, I went out to get the mail. As I looked down the street, I saw a little puppy running right down the center of Waterloo road. With the traffic that comes down this main road, I knew if I didn’t do something he was going to get hit by a car. …
I often get asked by generous friends of Operation Orphan as to how they can help. Donations and purchases though our Amazon Wish List have been a tremendous help to me this year and I thank you very much to all that have donated. Today, I come to you with a very specific need that…
I’ve said it many times before and I’ll say it again: 85% of the baby animals picked up ARE NOT ORPHANED and should have been LEFT ALONE. Mom usually is not far away. Below are some of the most common things that people DO WRONG when they find an animal and what’s THE RIGHT thing…
That’s what it is like here at Operation Orphan these days. Add some opossum and 25 baby squirrels that just came in this week. Did I mention that they all need to be handfed? Yes, folks, baby season is NOT over yet! With no time to write a TBT this week, I want to repost…
When it comes to parks, there are some important rules to follow. Many people don’t like to follow these rules; many times it’s because it is unclear to them why these rules exist. Or maybe they don’t even know these rules exist! Here are a couple of important rules that parks have in place to…
Without thinking about it, each of us do little things each day that impact our environment and wildlife in a negative way. For example, who would ever think that something as simple as throwing away the ring that is attached to a bottle cap could cost an animal its life? One year when I was…
For those who know me or have followed me through the years, you know that I am big on education, especially as it pertains to learning how to co-habitate with wildlife. Sometimes the education that I give may seem harsh but needs to be said, as in the case of today’s post. My job is…
Unless they are roaming and non-stop vocalizing for several hours, they are being cared for (Mother is not far away). PLEASE LEAVE THEM ALONE! Deer are giving birth now and I’ve been getting calls non-stop about fawns, so I want to get this message out to everyone. PLEASE SHARE. If you see a fawn in…
