New Endangered Species…The Bunny Bird
After 53 years of rehabilitation, I have come across a new species of wildlife. I was notified of this new species when a man came to my door with a litter of four bunnies and an egg.
The egg was in with the nest of bunnies (looked just like a robin egg, but how much do I know?). The man informed me that he had searched for the shells left behind from the babies hatching but couldn’t find them.
I thought to myself, “Certainly this man didn’t think that these bunnies hatch from the eggs!” Well, guess what? That’s exactly what he thought! I tried to tell him that bunnies are mammals, but he was not buying it. This left me wondering, “How does this ‘Bunny Bird’ fly?” If you see one in flight, please film it so that I can see for myself.
Ahhh, some days I just have to wonder if I fell asleep and woke up on another planet. In all seriousness, it is stories like this that reinforce the importance of educating the public about wildlife. Humans are their Number One Enemy, mainly due to the lack of the truth and understanding. The internet is so full of misinformation that it scares me. Oh, the stories I could tell from just that!
Please help me educate others about wildlife by sharing our Facebook page and posts but also getting the word out about our educational programs. If your school, nursing home, church or any group or association needs a speaker, please have them call me. It is my passion to save and rehabilitate wildlife, but also to educate the public so that we can co-exist with them better. Find out more here.
Have a wonderful day and remember: be on the lookout for the Bunny Bird!
